Boyan Obretenov is a journalist and the author of essays and articles on Bulgarian national psychology, on Bulgarian and foreign culture and cultural history. After his graduation from the Slavic Studies Department of the University of Sofia, he worked as a journalist. He headed the Arts and Culture Department of the Pogled weekly and the Sofia Press Agency. Later he joined the Continent daily, and in 1990-1991 he became the editor-in-chief of the first independent Bulgarian newspaper, Sofiiski Vesti.
